Clearance of a tender to lease BEST’s 2,465 square metre Altamount Road plot by six levels of officials in just six hours has caused a buzz among the bureaucracy and activists alike.
The plot in question houses two five-storey buildings with 35 homes for officers. Further, the clearance spree occurred on the eve of senior IAS officer SVR Srinivas’s retirement on his final day, July 31.
“Does fund generation really mean selling off public property instead of improving operations through honest governance? And can a General Manager or Administrator legally call tenders when neither the BMC nor the BEST Committee is in place? These are questions of legality, accountability, and the apparent misuse of authority”
